The weekend of 4&5 August 2018 is the Ash Fest – two days of running rapids on the Ash River near Clarens.

A new entry category has been added for whitewater sit-on-top kayaks. Together with whitewater kayaks, inflatable ‘Croc’ rafts and Stand-up Paddleboards (SUPs), and categories for Beginners, Intermediates, U16, U18 and Expert, there is a vessel and category for every paddler.

Day 1 includes heats, where beginners run the Grade 3 ‘Alles-verloren’ and ‘Alles-gevonden’ rapid, intermediates run the rapid catching a gate or two and expert paddlers have additional gates to catch for a successful run. Qualifying competitors go into a final, with the experts having it out on the Grade 4 Bridge rapid. Safety kayakers are in place to keep an eye on you.

Day 2 is a river run. The 12km stretch is divided into three sections – you can paddle the whole length or just a section.

Entry fee is set at R350 regardless of craft, number of craft or category.

Entries are open.
